Vogtland GmbH is
a company founded on tradition. With a history of over 90 years, Vogtland
GmbH has become a proven leader in spring and suspension technology.
Their long history and background aide them in providing the highest quality
automotive springs available on the market.
Located in Hagen, Germany Vogtland GmbH
has been a family run operation since the beginning. They operate 2 plants
in Germany, and their newest operation Vogtland NA is located in Temecula,
CA. |

|
The spring manufacturing process
begins with intense research into the design of the stock suspension
components. Ride heights, spring rates, spring lengths, and other
attributes are all carefully measured to determine the optimal configuration for
the new lowering springs. Beginning with the highest quality spring steel
available, Vogtland carefully measures and tests their raw materials to make
certain they meet strict guidelines. The raw spring steel are then carefully
stored until needed.
|

All Vogtland
springs are made using a computer controlled Wafios coil winding
machine. The springs are cold wound to assure minimal changes to the
properties of the metal. See a video of the winding process here.
After
the winding process the raw springs are heated treated in a large oven.
The heat treating relieves the built up stress within the material caused
from the coil winding process. Springs must be heat treated
immediately to prevent damaging the material, and causing it to fatigue.
|
|
Once the heat
treating process has completed, the springs are left to cool so they can
be handled. Springs that require their end be
ground flat have that step done once they have cooled sufficiently to
handle.
Different methods are used
depending on the spring size and material properties. Larger springs are
clamped and pressed against grinding wheels. While smaller springs
are placed on a spinning table with abrasive material above and/or below
to flatten the surfaces.
Once the grinding process is completed, the springs undergo a shot-peening
process.
|
|
Shot
peening is done in a large enclosure where the springs are fired upon by
very small balls of metal. The shot peening process relieves
the stress within the spring, and also removes any minor surface
imperfections. This step is critical to the longevity
of the spring, and should be done thoroughly to all parts of the spring
coil.
Following the shot peening, the springs undergo
a setting procedure. Block setting compresses the spring until all
the coils touch. This step assures that the spring will not sag, or otherwise
deteriorate over the life of the spring. Vogtland springs are block
set 3 times, where many inferior companies set only once. It's a
critical process to make certain that the springs will last.
|
|
Vogtland
springs undergo a strict testing procedure to make sure each spring will
withstand a lifetime of use. Springs are carefully measured for
length and spring rate.

At this stage springs can fully be measured and tested for spring rate,
spring deflection, and length. Springs that are ground flat are also carefully measured to make certain
that the ends of the springs are parallel to one other. Vogtland
uses very high precision optical measuring equipment along with computer
aided graphics to make sure all springs are perfect before being shipped.
|
|
Once
Vogtland springs have been tested they are carefully phosphate coated for
protection against corrosion, then powder coated for a beautiful long
lasting finish. The springs are labeled, boxed and warehoused in
various locations throughout Germany for quick distribution.
Vogtland NA maintains their own enormous supply on all lower springs,
suspension kits, and coilover systems for all US distribution. You
can be assured that all US customers will receive spring in a quick and
timely manner.
With Vogtland's long
history of spring making, and some of the best technology in the world,
you can rest assured that all Vogtland products will deliver the perfect
combination of driving performance with road comfort. With
PURE Motorsport as a leading distributor for their springs, we hope our
tour into the products and company was informative in helping you decide
your next suspension purchase. Please feel free to contact us with
